A little note from the secretary and re homing.

It’s a normal day to receive in the region of 10 phone calls a day often from desperate people with dogs they need to re home, it’s very difficult emotionally and we are regularly critcised and complained at because we can’t ‘just’ take their dog.
Unfortunately, we are unable to help nearly all of the requests we get for various reasons, mainly because our kennels run at 100% capacity and we are always looking for prospective experienced homes to adopt into. However, sometimes we get one of those where with effort and a lot of time we can help.

Please meet Betty (would you believe her microchip name was Green as in the colour of her collar and had not been updated), this little girl was a gift to a couple with very young children and no roƫe experience. They realised within a few days that they were not going to be able to give her what she would need and after contacting the breeder who refused to take her back called us for help. Arrangements were made to collect her from her home one cold wet Sunday, a volunteer and a trustee travelled from Wales to Somerset to pick her up, she was very tiny and underweight just 6.2kg and probably not even 8 weeks old although apparently she was 10 weeks old.
From Wales at silly o’clock to Somerset leaving there at 10.00 am up the road towards Norfolk the little angel she made the journey where half way another trustee drove to meet and take over the journey the rest of the way arriving at her new home at 4 in the afternoon, she met her new Mum and more importantly her 2 big roƫe brothers to show her the ropes (to be honest though the older brothers know exactly where they stand), she has thrived and just look at her gorgeous picture no longer underweight and already living the most amazing life. We could not do this without the dedication of our trustees, volunteers and amazing support network. All our costs were covered by Betty’s Mum thank you, but we cannot continue to do this work without your help, support and donations. Thank you.

And from Finance

This year we have already had some frightening vet’s bills but so far with the amazing support from our sponsors, members, helpers and donators and (sadly) legacies we are still holding our
own. THANK YOU 😊

We started the year slowly, our membership renewal numbers from 2022 were down but we are very pleased that we had an amazing response to the email reminder we sent early March.
There is still time if you would like to become a member which runs from (January to December) or just renew for £12.50, this will entitle you to attend and vote at the AGM (which is also held on line) get a copy of the minutes and the yearbook which is sent out at the beginning of each year.

Another success story we would like to share

DOUY
We lost our Bruno in July 2022, he was a foster dog from RWA, and we had been lucky enough to live with him for 4 1/2 years. In early December we expressed interest in adopting Douy, and were invited to meet her and a week later take her home, she is our 4th rescue rottweiler, she had been picked up by the dog warden in Norfolk and had not had a great life she was underweight, losing hair and was full of fleas. Sheila at RWA had given her a lot of care and attention to start rebuilding her, prior to us fetching her, she as settled in very well here to her new life here. We are lucky to live in a village on the edge of Sherwood forest she loves meeting other dogs and people, she goes to our village pub , and is starting to be recognised by the locals, who always comment on her beauty and how friendly she is.
We have grandchildren and they all absolutely love her and she loves being amongst them, she always goes with us over the local fields for walks and on her return loves to sleep on the sofa, she is fed a raw diet which she loves and which she thrives on, she was spayed at the beginning of march and seems to be geƫng over that well, she does have a few separatioon anxiety issues which we are working on, but she as coped so well with almost everything, I genuinely believe she is living her best life and long may it continue, thank you to everyone at RWA for letting us adopt Douy.
We would like to thank everyone who saw Douy’s story on Facebook and instantly sent additional donations for her, we are truly grateful.

Have you thought about adopting one of our dogs?

If you think you could give a dog who needs that little bit extra due to a poor start in life through no fault of their own please visit our website Rottweiler Welfare Association or email lynne@rottweilerwelfare.co.uk for more information.

Or how about fostering?

We are frequently being asked if we could find a home for an older dog who is just looking for a sofa and some love and TLC if you think you would like some more information please contact Jenni either on 07719606454 or jenni@rottweilerwelfare.co.uk.

The love you get back from helping these dogs is boundless
Fundraising

Thank you to everyone who supports us in the trying times we are still experiencing.

Also, a big hug and thank you to the small team of regulars and their beautiful dogs who come and help out at our Fundraising Events. We couldn’t do half of them without you. If you would like more information about some of the Events we will be attending over the next few months the Events Page on our website should give you all the
information you need, or you can give me a ring if you would like to attend or help. We hold regular online Raffles and Auctions via our Facebook page and of course are always looking for items to help to raise essential funds.

As usual, from time to time, you will see “scrounging” posts on Facebook etc for items such as unwanted jewellery, old watches (not working is fine) and tombola items and/or items suitable for Antique and Collectors Fairs/Car Boot Sales that we attend.

We welcome any ideas that you may have to help us with this important work.

Once again thank you for your continued support it means everything to us and, of course, our beautiful Breed.

Kennels

At the kennels, we feel, we hope, we are coming to the end of a very difficult time. Covid is still around, and although humans are getting back to some normality, our treasured breed has suffered. The time to re-educate damaged dogs with limited space has challenged the whole team, from committee to the volunteers. The reward when seeing the right dog in the right home with the right person out ways all the above. Please all people involved, members, volunteers and generous people who kindly donate take credit .

Share and Care

HAPPY EASTER TO EVERYONE……Shame chocolate is bad for dogs ….means I’ll just have to eat more…. 😊😊

I would like to thank everyone who has joined the Share and Care scheme again this year and those who have just joined us. Without your help there is a great possibility that some of these dogs would not still be alive. Sounds very strong words but I feel it is the truth. So you can see how very important it is that, continued support is so important we have a band of wonderful people that year after year help to save the many Roƫes that need that very special person and home to come along.
Rehabilitation can take many months or maybe never for some of these dogs and that is when they spend an enjoyable life either with Sheila or Sue.
I’m including a few of our Share and Care dogs here but I will over the next couple of months send you all an update on the dogs that you are sponsoring. Again, thank you so much for you continued support.

Walter. he is a very strange dog. has a few little quirks. He has his fan club, if you're in you're fine. He can’t really cope in a kennel situation, so he has his own suite, away from the other dogs. When he trusts you he is fine, but not much for over handling. He was very badly treated before he came here.

Odin. has a lot to deal with. he doesn't like change at all. doesn't trust people. he's quite funny as in everything has to be done in order. He likes things his way. Very loving when you get to know him. Has a few little issues, like don't touch his hindquarters??

Baylee. is the matriarch of the crew. She's very funny and loves her toys and chews. Have to mind her weight as she has a tendency to overeat! She's quite a character.

Sid. has a few medical problems from having leish but it doesn't affect him much. apart from he's crossed eyed. favourite thing...his kong. Loves a run a round and loves life.

Barney. Is a poser. he thinks he's the best thing since sliced
bread,,(which he is!). He's a real fun dog. Loves the camera and being the centre of attention, lovely boy..
